《今日のFUP：1118》 夫唱婦随 ─ ふしょうふずい
「夫唱婦随。それはうちの両親には当てはまらない。だって母の方が父をうまく操縦しているから」 ─ The wife follows the husband’s lead. But that doesn’t apply to our parents because she’s the one at the controls.
「夫唱婦随」とはthe wife follows the husband’s lead「夫のリード (手本、指示) に妻が従う」ということですね。apply to ～「～に適用する」。the one (who’s) at the controls「操縦 (運転) 席にいる人」で「うまく操縦している」の意味に。
（例）「彼は奥さんの尻に敷かれている」─ His wife keeps him on a short rope.
・keep ～ on a short rope「～を尻に敷く」。He’s a henpecked husband.とも言います。
前回の復習
「ジョージ様様だよ。この企画は彼の獅子奮迅の働きにより成功したようなものだから」─ I’ve got to hand it to George. It was thanks to his furious efforts that this project succeeded. / He worked like crazy. That’s why this project succeeded.
「～に兜を脱ぐ、～優秀さを認める (様様)」─ hand it to ～
「～のおかげ」─ It is thanks to ～
「猛烈な努力 (獅子奮迅の働き)」─ furious efforts
「死に物狂いで働く」─ work like crazy
「この手の仕事は、本腰を入れてやらないとだめだ」─ This is the kind of work you have to put your back into.
Extra Bit：「持てる力をすべて出して頑張らねば」─ We've got to give it all we've got.
