「あのイベントは掛け声ばかり大きかったが、結局、竜頭蛇尾に終わった」 ─ That event was loudly trumpeted, but despite all the fanfare at the outset, it fizzled out.
be loudly trumpeted「大々的に宣伝される」。despite all the fanfare at the outset「最初の派手な宣伝 (ファンファーレ) にもかかわらず」とfizzle out「尻すぼみになる、勢いがなくなる」を組み合わせて「竜頭蛇尾」のニュアンスを表現しています。
(例)「今回の企画はうまく行くのかね。尻すぼみにならなきゃいいけど」─ I wonder if this project will get off the ground. I hope it’s not going to fizzle out.
・get off the ground「うまくスタートする (離陸する)」。
前回の復習
「15年間、試合で負け知らずだなんて、前人未到の記録ですね」─ Undefeated for 15 years, you’re in territory nobody has ever been in before.
「不敗の、全勝の」─ undefeated
「以前に誰も踏み込んだことのない領域にいる (前人未踏)」─ be in territory (that) nobody has ever been in before
「今までに誰もやったことがない」─ No one has ever done it.
「我々は今、前例のない経済不況から抜け出そうとしている」─ We’re now trying to get out of the unprecedented economic slump.
Extra Bit：「僕の知っている限りでは、それは以前にはなかったことだね」─ To my knowledge it has never happened before.
