荒唐無稽　英語で四字熟語101

《今日のFUP：1106》　荒唐無稽 ─ こうとうむけい
「そのスーパーヒーローが登場する映画は荒唐無稽だったが、思ったより面白かった」 ─ The superhero movie was too unbelievable, but funnier than I had expected.

「荒唐無稽」はabsurd「ばかげた」、preposterous「不合理な」、all nonsense「すべてナンセンス (非常識な)」などでもいいのですが、ここではtoo unbelievable「とても信じられない」を使っています。「興味深かった」と思ったのなら、funnierの代わりにmore interestingと言えばいいでしょう。exepect「予想する」。
(例)「映画館では信じられないという気持ちは持たないようにしないと」─ You have to suspend disbelief at the theater.
　・suspend disbelief「(架空のものを) 一時的に信じる」。
