《今日のFUP：1099》 品行方正 ─ ひんこうほうせい
「彼は今では品行方正な青年だが、昔は不良で有名だった」 ─ He’s a serious, upstanding young man now, but in the past, he was notorious as a juvenile delinquent.
serious「真面目な」とupstanding「正直な、立派な」を使って「品行方正」を表現。well-conducted「品行がいい」やwell-behaved「行儀のいい」でも「品行方正」の意味になりますので、一緒に覚えておきましょう。in the past「昔は、過去に」、notorious as ～「～として悪名高い」。juvenile delinquentが「不良」に当たる表現。
(例)「彼は高校生の時、とんでもない悪だった」─ He was a terror as a high school student.
・terror「厄介な人、困り者」。
前回の復習
「テスト問題の予想が百発百中だったら、こんな点は取らないんだけど」─ If I had predicted every single question that was on the exam, I wouldn't have gotten such a low score. (仮定法の過去完了。たらればの話。）
「(試験に出る) あらゆる問題を予測する (百発百中)」─ predict every single question
「ひどい点数を取る」─ get such a low score
「彼女の勝利は予想通りだった」─ Her victory was in line with what most people expected.
Extra Bit：「天気予報がまたはずれた」─ The weather forecast was off the mark again.
