《今日のFUP：1071》 暗中模索 ─ あんちゅうもさく
「これといった解決策がなく、暗中模索の状態です」 ─ We’re just groping in the dark since we don’t have a clear solution.
grope in the dark「暗闇の中で手探りする」が「暗中模索」に当たる表現。clear solution「明快な解決策」、since ～「～なので」。Without ～「～がない」で始めて、Without a clear solution, we’re just groping in the dark.とも言えます。
(例)「議論をして、議論をして、それでも結論が出ない」─ We’re debating and debating and getting nowhere.
・get nowhere「どこにもたどり着かない」。
前回の復習
「悪戦苦闘の末、ようやく彼らは会社を立ち直らせた」─ After an uphill struggle against great odds, they finally got the company on its feet again.
「必死になってもがくこと (悪戦苦闘)」─ uphill struggle
「とても見込みのない中で」─ against great odds
「～を立ち直らせる、元気にさせる」─ get ～ on one’s feet
「この期に及んで、悪あがきはよせ」─ There’s no reason to make a fruitless struggle at this point.
Extra Bit：「彼は今日の地位に築くまでに大変な苦労をした」─ He went through hell and high water to get where he is today.
