《今日のFUP：1068》 立身出世 ─ りっしんしゅっせ
「彼は立身出世するために、多くの人たちを踏み台にしてきた」 ─ He’s stepped on a lot of people on his way up the corporate ladder.
step on ～「～を踏みつける」。on one’s way up the corporate ladder「出世の階段を登る途中で」。これで「立身出世するために」を表現。on his way ～の代わりに、to climb up the corporate ladder「出世の階段を登るために」も使えます。Nothing is going to keep you from succeeding in life!と言えば、「君の立身出世を妨げるものは何もない！」。
(例)「彼は激しい出世レースに耐えられなくなって。辞めたんだ」─ He couldn’t stand the rat race. He quit.
・rat race「激しい出世争い (ネズミの競争)」。
前回の復習
「あの若者たちの傍若無人な振る舞いは、どうにかならないものか？」─ Isn’t there anything that can be done about the outrageous behavior of those young kids?
「～について何かできることはないのか (どうにかならないのか)」─ Isn’t there anything that can be done about ～
「乱暴な、けしからぬ、ひどい (傍若無人)」─ outrageous
「振る舞い、行為」─ behavior
「他の人に横柄な態度を取るのはよくない」─ It’s no good to take an arrogant attitude toward others.
Extra Bit：「やりたい放題することを自由と取り違えている人がいる」─ Some people seem to be unable to distinguish between freedom and wild abandon.
