《今日のFUP：1043》 他力本願 ─ たりきほんがん
「他力本願ではいけない。自分で苦難を乗り越えるようにしなくては」 ─ Don’t expect anybody to rescue you. You have to be able to overcome hardships on your own.
「他力本願」はDon’t depend / rely on others.「他人を頼るな」でもいいのですが、ここではDon’t expect anybody to rescue you.「誰かが救いに来ることを期待するな」で表現しています。overcome hardships on one’s own「自分自身で苦難を乗り越える」。hardshipsはdifficulties「困難」、problems「問題」と置き換え可能。
(例)「困った時だけ人に頼よるなよ」─ Don’t depend on me only when you’re in trouble.
・be in trouble「困っている」。

「友達から借りたお金を返さないとは言語道断だ」─ Borrowing money from a friend and never returning it is outrageous. / It’s inexcusable not to pay back the money you borrow from a friend.
「借りること」─ borrowing (動名詞)
「返さないこと」─ never returning (動名詞)
「とんでもない、ひど過ぎる (言語道断)」─ outrageous
「弁解できない、許し難い」─ inexcusable
「そんな話は論外だよ」─ That’s not even worthy of consideration.
Extra Bit：「あのレストランの従業員の態度って、超むかつくよね (言語道断)」─ The attitude of the employees at that restaurant is outrageous.
