「相手の身になって物事を考えるようにしないと」─ You need to learn to see things from other people's points of view.
「相手の身になって考える」とはsee things from other people's points of view「他の人の視点から物事を見る」ということですね。sympathetic「思いやりのある」を使って、You need to be more sympathetic toward other people.と言ってもいいでしょう。
（例）「ちょっと僕の立場になってみてよ」─ Put yourself in my shoes for a second.

「彼と話すと気を使うんだよね」─ A conversation with him makes you think a lot. / He's the kind of guy who really makes you think.
「色々と考える（気を使う）」─ think a lot
「彼と仕事をするとストレスが溜まる」─ Working with him stresses me out.
