「手間を省こうと思ってしたことが、かえって二度手間になってしまった」─ I tried to save myself some trouble and ended up doubling the hassle.
end up doubling the hassleの文字通りの意味は「結果として手間が倍になる」。extra「余分な」を使って、次のようにも言えます。I tried to do things the easy way and ended up making extra trouble for myself.
（例）「この会社には二度手間になることがたくさんある」─ There's a lot of duplicated effort in this company.

「みんなの足手まといになりたくないから、自転車旅行はやめておく」─ I don't want to be a drag on you all, so I'll opt out of the next bike trip. / I won't be going on the next bike trip. I don't want to slow you all down.
「足手まとい」─ drag（名詞）＋on
