「その家族はひっそりと小さなアパートで暮らしていた」─ The family lived quietly in a small apartment.
「ひっそりと」はquietly「静かに」で表現すればいいでしょう。a quiet life「静かな生活」も使えます。The family lived a quiet life in their small apartment.
（例）「静かで平凡な人生でもかまわない」─ I don't mind leading a quiet, uneventful life.

「今日の午後は季節はずれの雪が降るらしい」─ We're going to have some unseasonable weather this afternoon. It's supposed to snow. / It's going to snow this afternoon. That's unusual for this time of year.
