「何でそんな頭ごなしに決めつけるの？」─ Why do you make such blind assumptions?
make blind assumptionsの意味は「盲目的に決めつける」。 How can you assume so much without thinking it through?でも同じようなニュアンスになります。assume so much without thinking it through「多くのことをよく考えもせずに決めてかかる」。
（例）「人員整理計画に賛成だと思っていいんですか？」─ Can I assume that you're in agreement with the workforce reduction plan?

「彼は話をうわの空で聞いていた」─ He acted like he was listening. But his mind was somewhere else. / He was looking at me and nodding. But he wasn’t really there.
「心は他のどこかにある（うわの空）」─ one's mind is somewhere else
