「警備の手薄な建物が犯人に狙われた」─ The perpetrator targeted buildings with lax security.
with lax security「警備の厳しくない」で「警備が手薄な」を表現。perpetratorは「犯人、加害者」、targetは「標的にする」という意味。have poor security「警備が手薄である」を使って、The burglar targeted the building because it had poor security.とも言えます。
（例）「絶えず警戒していなくてはいけない」─ We have to be on our guard all the time.

「犬の世話は全部親に任せっきりにしていた」─ I left my dog’s care entirely up to my parents. / I left my dog entirely in my parents' hands.
「任せる」─ leave
「完全に」─ entirely
