「その真相は一部の人しか知らされていなかった」─ Only a select few were ever told the truth about what happened.
a select few「選ばれた少数の人」で「一部の人」を表現。be told ～「～を知らされる」の代わりにlearn ～「～を知る」を使って、次のようにも言えます。Only a select few ever learned the truth about that incident.
（例）「彼の発言の一部だけがマスコミに取り上げられた」─ Just one part of what he said got picked up by the media.

「そういう時って、人間性が問われるよね」─ That kind of situation tests one’s humanity. / It’s at times like those that one's humanity is put to the test.
