「今のうちに、洗濯しておこう」─ I think I’ll do the laundry while I can.
「今のうちに」をwhile I can「できる間に」で表現しています。do the laundry「洗濯をする」の代わりに、get the laundry out of the way「洗濯を片付ける」を使って次のように言ってもいいでしょう。I guess I’d better get the laundry out of the way while I can.
（例）「休めるときに、休んでおいて」─ Rest up while you can.

「締め切りが３日後に迫っていた」─ The deadline closed in on me until it was just three days away. / The deadline was closing in -- just three days away.
「迫る」─ close in
「もうすぐ結論が出ると思います」─ I think we’re close to a decision.
Extra Bit：「努力するたびに目標に近づくのです」─ Each effort gets you closer to your goal.
