《今日のFUP：246》免停
「彼はスピード違反で１カ月間免停になった」─ He had his driver’s license suspended for a month for speeding.
have one’s driver’s license suspended「運転免許が停止される」で「免停」を表現しています。suspendは「一時停止する」という意味の動詞。「今、免停中なんだ」はMy driver’s license has been suspended.と言います。
（例）「この前、駐禁を取られて、免停になっちゃったよ」─ I got a parking ticket and they suspended my license.

「最近はこのあたりで放火が頻繁に起きている」─ There has been a rash of arson in the neighborhood recently.
