金曜日は「英語表現」の日。日常生活の中で頻繁に使われるさまざまな表現を覚えましょう。毎回、トピックに関連した使える英文を紹介します。今回も「お金」です。

【解説】
6.「懐が寒い」をempty pockets「空のポケット」で表現。（例）That money is going to burn a hole in his pocket.「あのお金、彼はすぐに使ってしまうだろう」。just like always「いつものように」。
7. spend「使う、費やす」。（例）I never thought I'd end up spending so much money.「そんなにお金を使うことになるとは思わなかった」。
8. budgetの意味は「予算を立てる（動詞）、予算・経費（名詞）」。（例）This budget was unreasonable from the start.「最初からこの予算には無理があったんだよ」。
9. hold out「もつ、続く」。Our money will hold out for another week.「お金はあと一週間もたないよ」。at this rate「この調子では」。
10. (When you're) Out of money, (you're) out of friends.省略されている語に注目。（例）Out of sight , out of mind.「去る者日々に疎し」。
