木曜日は「英文法」の日。Practice before theory.「理屈より実践」。さまざな例文を参考にして、使える英文法を身につけましょう。今回も基本動詞Goを取り上げます。

◆Goを使いこなす！(2)◆
日常会話の中でよく用いられる例文を五つ挙げてみます。

【リピーティング】
英文11～15をリピートしましょう。

11. Everything is going well.
→すべてうまく行っている。
12. We've gone through a lot.
→僕たちいろいろあったよね。
13. I know I should go on a diet.
→ダイエットすべきなんだよね。
14. For here or to go?
→こちらでお召し上がりですか、お持ち帰りですか？
15. I wish I could go see his concert live.
→彼のコンサートが生で見られたらな。



▽解説・穴埋め

【解説】
11.「うまく行く」はgo wellで、その逆はgo wrongで表現します。（例）What went wrong?「どうかしたの？（何がうまく行かなかったの？）」。
12. go through ～で「～を経験する」という意味。（例）Be cheerful as you go through life.「明るく生きて行こう」。
13. go on a diet「ダイエットする」。（例）go on a date「デートする」、go on a trip「旅行に出かける」、go on a spree「どんちゃん騒ぎをする」。
14. Is this for here or to go?のIs thisが省略されています。ファストフード店で使わる表現です。For here、あるいは、To go.と答えます。
15. go and seeのandを省略した言い方。（例）I'll go splash some water on my face.「顔を洗いに行ってくる」。

日本語の意味なるようにカッコに適切な語を入れてください。

【解説】
16. go well with ～「～とよく合う」。（例）This wine goes well with the steak.「このワインはステーキによく合う」。
17. go through a rough patchで「大変な目に遭う」という意味。（例）We were riding high during the bubble economy, but now we're going through a rough patch.「バブルの時には波に乗ってたが、今は大変だよ」。
18. go on a 1-year homestayで「1年間ホームステイする」の意味に。homestayは動詞として使えません。
19. I'll have ～ to go, please.「～を持ち帰りでお願いします」。この言い回しを覚えておきましょう。
20. go (and) getのandを略した言い方です。（例）Just a moment. I'll go get him.「ちょっと待ってください。彼を呼んできます」。

【リピーティング】
英文16～20をリピートしましょう。

→このスナック菓子はビールとよく合う。
Going through hard times makes you thankful for things you always took for
granted.
→辛いことを経験すると、今まで当たり前だと思っていたことに感謝するようになる。
That company's shares are going through the roof.
→あの会社の株は天井知らずだ。
I want to go on a carefree trip.
→気ままな旅がしたい。
I'm sorry, but this just can't go on.
→残念だが、このままにはしておけない。
He made me go to a lot of trouble.
→彼のせいで大変な思いをした。
A man shouldn't go back on his word.
→男に二言はありません。
Why don't we go get a cup of coffee somewhere?
→どこかでコーヒーを飲まない？
