英文法の急所（文法102回）
知っておくべき英文法のポイント（急所）を確認しましょう。今回のポイントは、苦手な構文を克服する(11)「soの基本用法とso ～ that、so that構文」です。1.～4.のモノローグを赤字に注意して読んでください。
1. You have a DVD player.
So do I.
What brand did you buy?
DVDプレーヤーを持ってるの？

2. I needed a light, so I asked a woman for one.
That was 40 years ago.

【解説】
1. So do I.でI have a DVD player, too.の意味を表します。この場合のsoは副詞。brand「ブランド、メーカー」。
2. soは接続詞で「それで」の意味。a light「（煙草の）火」。
3. soがcomfortableを強調し、that以下でその結果どうなったかを説明しています。
4. so that ～で目的を表し、「～できるように、～のために」の意味になります。hire「雇う」、volunteer work「ボランティアの仕事（冠詞なし）」。

7. so tallで背の高さを強調し、that以下で何が起きているかを説明しています。bump「ぶつける」、doorframe「ドア枠」。
8. so that ～で目的を表しています。see more of the world「見聞を広める（もっと世界を見る）」。
