《今日のFUP：1066》 空前絶後 ─ くうぜんぜつご
「これほどの大当たりなんて信じられないよ。まさに空前絶後としか言いようがない」 ─ I can’t believe I hit the jackpot. This is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing.
hit the jackpot「(賭け事などで) 大当たりする、一山当てる」。a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing「一生に一度の出来事」とは、「以前にも、これからもありえないだろう出来事 (This has never happened before and it will probably never happen again.)」、つまり、「空前絶後」ということですね。
(例)「それは空前絶後の大惨事だった」─ It was the most disastrous accident we had ever heard of.
・disastrous「悲惨な」。
前回の復習
「私は両親の元を離れ、18歳で独立独歩の道を歩み始めた」─ I left my parent’s house and struck out on my own at the age of 18.
「独立する、自立する (独立独歩)」─ strike out on one’s own
「独力で行く、自活する」─ go under one’s own steam
「～歳の時に」─ at the age of ～
「人に頼ってばかりではいけない。もっと自立心を持たなければ」─ Instead of relying on other people all the time, you should be more self-reliant.
Extra Bit：「最近の女性は自立している (独立独歩の) 人が多い」─ These days there are a lot of independent women.
