「最後の追い込みだ。できるだけのことはやらないと」─ I'm in the homestretch now. I've got to do all I can.
be in the homestretchで「最後の追い込み（ホームストレッチだ）」の意味になります。語順を変えて、Now I'm going to do everything I can. This is the homestretch.
と言ってもいいでしょう。
（例）「最後の一頑張りしてみよう。やってみる価値はある」─ It's a last-ditch effort, but it's worth a try.

「なるべく返事をください」─ Do what you can to give me an answer. / I want you to do your best to answer me.
「できるだけ（なるべく）」─ do what you can
「最善を尽くす」─ do your best
「もしできるのなら、月曜日に予約を入れたいのですが」─ If at all possible, I'd like to make the appointment for Monday.
