「彼の説明を聞いていたら、訳がわからなくなった」─ Hearing his explanation, I couldn't make any sense out of it.
couldn’t make any sense out of ～「～の意味を理解できなかった」で「訳がわからなくなった」を表現。unable to make heads or tails of ～「～が理解できない」を使って、次のようにも言えます。I listened to his explanation, unable to make heads or tails of it.
（例）「訳のわからないことを言うのはやめてくれ」─ Stop talking nonsense.
