emosi_Negative into Positive. Nanapi Presents the Non-language SNS App that “Aims for World Peace”
Text: NAKAYA Kenichi
“emosi” is an app made by nanapi that “Aims for World Peace.” The specification of this app is kind of a mystery: You can only send pictures, videos and sound. You don’t post to your page, but rather you extend a thread as a “reaction” to someone else’s post and communicate through it. In fact, writing it in words doesn’t quite convey their worldview. Why, how, and for whom did they release this unusual app? We close in on the mystery.

ARAI Minami (Handwriting Researcher)_Visualizing the Poet’s Breath and Way of Holding a Brush
Visualizing the bodily motions involved in the act of “writing” in its entirety—Arai Minami thoroughly analyzes the handwritten drafts of literati and poets, and as a researcher (creator), she uses wire to recreate how they wrote on the page. Enlarging characters with a magnifying glass, and using pliers, she bends wire to form the same shape as the letters put to page. While the creative process demands down to earth effort and nuanced sense of control, the idea itself is quite daring. How is it that works like this came into being?
