As neither a blog nor SNS, Tumblr is gradually establishing itself as an original platform. One of its biggest appeals is the great freedom of customization. While customization could be “cumbersome,” such as having execute changes via a “theme” file, there’s “nothing you can’t do” if you utilize it properly. Webfonts A Go-Go New!

Part 1: Cool Text Expression Using Japanese Fonts by Installing “FONTPLUS”

In the past, Website texts were written by specifying CSS using only a small number of device fonts. With the emergence of “Web Fonts” with which the user can display arbitrary fonts on Website, the possibility of expression has expanded radically. There has long been a lack of support for Japanese fonts, for there is common concern about their huge data volume due to a great number of characters. Meanwhile, as a result of the participation of notable font benders and the improvement of technology and environment, people started to install them in earnest. Using sites that installed “FONTPLUS” as examples, this article explains how fonts influence design and how they should be implemented.
