Old Yet New Site Design Through CD Jackets
Open Reel Ensemble, a group of musicians who use open reels as instruments, released their first album “Open Reel Ensemble” on June 27th. Kawakami Shun from artless handled art direction for their CD jacket and Website. The results of the collaboration between these individual creatives were a booklet-free transparent CD jacket and arresting Website with members’ hand-drawn illustration that serves as a booklet. Kawakami Shun from artless and Wada Ei and Yoshida Yu from Open Reel Ensemble talk about how they found their way into this old yet new design, where a booklet, usually a printed material, was replaced by Web and GIF animation-incorporated hand-drawn illustration was implemented using HTML5.
