Feature 1: How to win the hearts and minds of women?
- Representing 50% of the WWW audience, women should not be overlooked -
According to our “Web Designers Report 2004” (on Web Designing 2004/10), the male-female ratio of respondents to the Web Designer questionnaire was 8:2. The result made me just a little uneasy.
"The Web design industry is primarily a male-dominated society! Women, who represent half of our world, probably use the Web as much as men do. I wonder, can a dominantly male society of Web designers and developers make a Web that appeals to women?"
As women are generally more intuitive and sensitive than men, they are also generally more particular about what they like and dislike (at least from a mans perspective). Wining women's hearts and minds is no easy task so we asked some professionals for their help.
In this issue, we analyze some women's magazines, meet the Web master of a women’s site, and even visit playboy club in kabukicho, Shinjuku...
Feature 2: Simple ideas for improving usability with CSS + JavaScript
- What Ajax teaches us about the potential of HTML interfaces -
Are you tired of seeing the same old web-forms, same old buttons, same old pull-down menus. Boring, boring, boring! (wouldn't you agree?). With the widespread implementation of CSS support by Web browsers, we can finally create an HTML interface that is both attractive and user friendly by employing a combination of CSS + JavaScript. Ajax is a great example. Although creating Ajax can be a little tricky at first, the improvements are well worth it. In this feature, we explore Ajax and show you some ideas you can put to use.
